I can't make a proper French omelet. I always end up with a lumpy roll of scrambled eggs.

This isn't as dramatic as the time I blew up an egg, or the time I set a pot of oil on fire, or the time I tried to make a sauce of soy sauce and milk, but it always makes me feel like a Failure Before Julia.

It does boggle my mind that I can make all these fancy things including pastry from scratch and croquets and such but ask me to make an omelette and I am like...wait wut? Half burnt scrambled eggs coming up

I know! It's eggs! But I just can't get them to turn into that smooth little roll! And yeah, half the time they go leather-brown-burnt outside and half the time it's just a scramble.

Thank Italy for frittatas.

Toad in the Hole which is sausages in batter type thing but that...is a really bad explanation hence the link.

Basically, I got to stressed trying to heat the batter and the sausages at the same time and over cooked one and under cooked the other and it was a disaster and I ended up sitting in the floor of my kitchen crying my eyes out. Have yet to try it again lol

No toads are involved, I must say

I once tried to make an egg drop soup, and somehow managed to have all of the egg latch onto the sides of the pot and, while not quite burn, get inedibly crispy.

I didn't even know it was possible to mess up egg drop soup that badly.

The time I realized I didn't have enough flour for banana bread, so I tried substituting pancake mix. IT WAS SO GROSS. LOL

Not even a cooking/baking fail, just a straight up measuring fail. When I was a kid, you used to be able to buy Kool-Aid unsweetened and then you just added your own sweetener of choice. For sugar, you'd add a cup. For something like Sweet'n Low/aspertame, you only used a couple of teaspoons. Guess who added a whole cup of Sweet n' Low to the mix? Yup. It was horrific. We ended up making SO. MUCH. lime Kool-Aid to thin out the original mixture. My family has never let me forget it! LOL

Not my own kitchen fail, but I was affected by it nonetheless - my stepdad burned down the kitchen while making tacos one night.

My most recent fail was grabbing flax meal by accident instead of all purpose flour to make a roux. It did not turn out well.

I tried substituting orzo for rice in a casserole and it came out half cooked and crunchy in parts. 16 years later and I'm still hearing about it from hubs!
