#170: it was scary... only not

What totally mundane, harmless thing scared you the most as a child?

I was terrified of walking in the dark, especially outside. This kind of tied into my fear of snakes because I always imagined every dark mass on the ground was a snake, even if they were just clothes on my bedroom floor (you'd think that'd encourage me clean my room more lol). One time, I was playing with the rake outside and left it by the side of the house. It was night by the time my mom found out, and she sent me out to get it. I was so scared, I just stood in one place sobbing until she let me come back inside.

Mannequins! In the Sears stores especially. Not even just the headless ones, those were a special kind of scary for me as a kid, but the normal ones too. No idea to this day what caused it, but it was enough to make me curl up in the cart with my coat over my head while mum shopped.

The starburst glare of a neighbor's light that reflected on my bathroom window as a kid. I was terrified that star was going to get me if my parents didn't turn on the bathroom light to blot it out! LOL
