I used a kitchen mandoline without either the chariot or a protective glove.

(A mandoline is a slicing device that was basically used as a predecessor to the food processor. You slide a vegetable over a slanted board and very, very sharp blades set in the surface slice it into the exact same thickness of slice each time. The chariot is what they call the object you are supposed to stick into the vegetable and use as a handle, specifically so you keep your idiot fingertips away from the super sharp blade. I get bonus dumb points for this because I had the chariot, I just didn't feel like taking five minutes to find where I'd left it the last time.)
